The magic wand of Fairy God Mother

A sweet little girl, Pari, lived in a small town, Bulandpur  with her father. Her mother died after giving birth to her. She was very beautiful. Her fair complexion   attracted every body. Even a small mark of dust made her look tired.  The neighbours used to say that Pari was a real fairy.  Her eyes were like shining stars. Anyone who saw her once, could not take away their  eyes from her face. She was the only child of her father. He doted upon her.

One day when Pari was going to school, there was a heavy dust storm. A small particle of dust entered her eyes. She rubbed her eyes, but there was no relief. In fact  the rubbing of the eyes  resulted in watering from the eyes. Her father took her to a doctor. who prescribed some eye drops. There was no improvement in her condition. Her father  took her to Delhi and she was shown to an eye specialist. The doctor gave an injection in her eye. When there was no sign of improvement, she was admitted to the hospital. A day was fixed for the surgery of her eye.On the day when the surgery was fixed, in the morning Pari told her father that a fairy god mother came to her at night. She said that the fairy told her that she was her god mother and no harm would come to her.Pari's father prayed to God that his daughter's dream may come true. The Doctor came to examine Pari  before taking her to the operation theatre, He told Pari's father,''There is a miracle.Pari's eye has shown great improvement. There is no need for an operation.'' A fairy godmother has  shown her magic wand. Pari  recovered within a week and was discharged from the hospital.

This story is not a fiction. It is based on a real incident. The names of the characters have been changed.

Mom we miss you.

Today on the ocassion of Mother's Day,my mom has quietly entered my thoughts a number of times. While cooking in the kitchen, calling  us one by one for breakfast and each one of us getting our favourite dish, already on the table waiting for us!All of us   left  wondering when did she get the time to present  every one's choice on the table. There is nobody who can match or share Mother's love. Mother is a living and loving God  on the earth. Her love, care and affection for each of her children is unparalled.  O mother dear, how much love is hidden in your heart for all of us! The best part is that each one of us thought,''I am mom's pet''.
I am now eighty years old. Even now my mom is my role model.  I  never, even in  my dreams thought that such pure and  plenty of LOVE and AFFECTION could overflow for each of my children, their spouses and my grand children. My heart beats for each one of them. I have no words to express my overflowing love for them. Mothers love for the chiklren is genuine.  It is unmeasured, and cannot be weighed. aiat cannot be understood.
Here is a small poem, depicting the love of  a mother.
                                                                  Children, your love is hidden
in layers and layers of emotions
within the precints of my heart.
you are  in each  thought of mine.

In the autumn of my life.I crave
silently for each one of  your love
you came to me as balm for my soul
each one of your thoughts fresh in mind

You are a special reward for me
from God, a gift to be cherished
My day and night prayersfor for your
                                                                     glory, success, name and fame

                                                                     My dear ones D K R and R
                                                                     And H  J  U along with A

A courageous woman(part 11)

. She was tired mentally and physically. Perhaps  she  slept on the bench. Suddenly she realised that she was not in the park but in a bed in a big room.. The first thought that came to her mind was that her brother had found her and she was in the house of the old man. No, she was wrong. She was in some new place. She looked around. No one was to  be  seen . She again drooped into sleep.  She got up with a start when someone touched her fore head. A lady asked her how she was feeling. The first question Paro  asked, ”Where am I ? How did I reach here?”The lady said,” You can call me Aunty. Don’t worry, you are in safe hands. Where is your house? Where are your parents?”  Paro was still in a dazed condition. She could not think   logically. She herself did not know how she had reached this place. She  was in such a state of uncertainity that she  herself  tried to recollect the events  how  and when she came here.  Her eyes were still closed, when  sound of some people talking echoed in the room. She saw a young man talking to another man, who seemed to be a Doctor, because of a stethoscope round his neck.  The lady  who  was talking to her was also there. The Doctor came near her bed and said,”Hello, young lady, how are you?”
Paro,” I am all right.”
The Doctor asked,” What is your name?.”
She replied,”My name is Parvati, but every one calls me Paro”.
The way she spoke innocently , made everyone smile. The Doctor said that she was fine. He took the young man outside and told him,  “She is stressed. She will be allright in a day or two  after some rest.”The man came inside and addressed the lady, “Mom, the Doctor says she is fine. Get her some breakfast.”After his mother left he addressed   Paro,” Should I call you Paro or Parvati?  Before  she  said something,  his mom  entered with a tray . “Have  your breakfast. Mannu, you also come. You have not had anything since morning. I will get some milk.” Paro  asked him  why he had not taken  breakfast. He smiled and said,”I went to call the Doctor. He has certified you  are well, now I will have my breakfast with you.”Paro felt shy  and looked the other side.
After breakfast, he took her outside. He supported her and walked at  a slow pace with her.  They sat under the shade of a big mango tree. Mannu asked her  lovingly whether she was  comfortable. She just nodded her head. He asked her that why she was sleeping in the park all alone.  She  was terrified. She did not want to think of  the  past events. Something in the eyes of this young man encouraged her to speak.  She told him everything about her past.  Next day in the morning, she told the lady of the house that she was leaving.  Mannu’s mother asked her where she would go. Paro did not say anything. She herself did not know where to go.  Mannu’s mother told her that a friend of hers was working in Social Welfare Department. She said,”I can refer you to her. She may be able to help you.” Paro was more than happy on this proposal.
Paro  met  Mrs Gidwani  in her office.  Mrs. Gidwani  sent her  to an orphanage for girls. She advised Paro to study and help the matron in  day to day  work of the  orphanage. Next day when Paro went there, she felt as if she had come to her own house.  The first thing   that   attracted  her was a notice board.

“People become really quiet remarkable when
they start thinking they can do things. When
they believe in themselves they have the secret
to success.” – Norman Vincent Peale

Paro met the matron, Indira   Rani,  who was like a mother figure.  The girls were very fond of her. Paro told her  story to Indira  Rani.   On hearing  the the struggle  in  Paro’s life, tears   came to her eyes. She introduced  Paro to all the girls. There were about 35 girls ranging from  five years to twenty years of age.  All the girls were  victims   in the hands of cruel   society. Three of them  were newly born when they were discarded  by their  parents.
A new life started for  Paro. She was  very considerate towards the girls. She could relate to  their miseries. She decided that she will get every girl well settled.
Time passed. Paro  completed  her post graduation in Sociology.  Indira Rani gave   charge  to  Paro. Mannu was a good friend. He   loved   Paro  and raised the issue of marriage  to her but she politely refused as she was committed to  settle the girls  staying in  the orphanage. He too joined her in her noble  venture. All the girls were   given  training in a subject of their  choice. They were made relent reliant. Most of  them were married off  in good families.
On Republic Day, the President of India conferred the award, of Padma  Shri  to Paro.

A courageous woman (part 1)

It was 10’0 clock at night. Paro was not sleepy. She  sat in her bed and was turning the pages of a photo album lying on the table, near the bed.  A lady entered the room and said, “Ma’m,  Do you want some thing? Why are you still awake? It is midnight. Switch off the light and go to sleep.”  The lady left the room. Paro tried to sleep but.....
Her thoughts took her to her brother’s house in Balia. Her brother and Bhabi treated her not more than a menial. Her mother died when she was three years old. She was a pet of her father.  “My darling daughter will be a queen one day.” She was the only sister of five brothers. Her father had married twice. From his first wife there were  four sons. His second wife bore a son and a daughter. She died while in delivery. The child survived.  She was named Parvati  but  was called  Paro. Her brothers went to school. She was the only  one  who was not aware what went on inside the four walls of a classroom. When she was ten years old, her father had a massive heart attack. Her father was only concerned for her. He called his eldest son, Hemant and told him after his death, he should look after his sister. He gave his son a sum of thirty thousand rupees and told him to marry off his sister in a decent family. Her father passed away after a year. Her brother took her to his house.
She was treated like a maid in her brother’s house. The whole day she was made to do menial jobs. One day after dinner, she was asked to wash utensils. The kitchen was full.  Paro emptied the bowls, arranged the left overs in the refrigerator, when her bhabi, Mrs. Gupta came and scolded her for not  finishing the work. Paro suppressed her tears, but did not say anything.  Mrs. Gupta left the kitchen, murmuring. Paro completed the rest of the utensils and went to her room.  It was only an apology for a room. There was no ventilation. Even one bed could not be spread in it.  She sat on her bed. It was so hard that her back felt very painful. Sleep was far from her.  In her brother’s house, she had no facilities.  After whole day’s work, her bhabi used to tell her to press her legs.  Some time, if sleep overpowered her, her bhabi would push her with her leg, using choicest of abusive words. Her brother was so much under the influence of his wife that he did not have the guts to oppose her.  The brother’s house was very big but she was housed in the servant room.  She was provided one soap for a month. She had been staying there for one year, but not a single dress was provided.  So miserable was her condition that she had no means to protect herself  during her monthly periods.  A few old blankets, perhaps used by the previous servants, served the purpose of sanitary napkins for her. There was no one to whom she could tell her pain.
One day her bhabi gave her a new dress and told her to come to the living room. She wondered how this change had overtaken her bhabi. Before she stepped inside she  heard her bhabi uttering her name. She stood there and heard the whole conversation. She understood that they were planning to sell her to that man. They were bargaining the amount. She was shocked. Oh god! How could they do so!! Tears started dripping. Without caring for consequences, she turned back and came out of the house.
She did not know where to go. Poor Paro! She did not know how far she walked.  She knew that she sat on a bench in a park. (to be continued)

Wordless Wednesday

Wordless Wednesday
dated 6th Mat 2015

Our pet, Elsa

"A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more

than he loves himself." This is a quotation that I read

long ago. I have forgotten the name of the author, but the

words will remain fresh in my mind. Long ago we had an

Alsation dog, who was the pet of the family. We used to

live in Dehra Dun in a huge bunglow, which was ideal for

an Alsation. When my father was transferred to Delhi we

had to leave Tinky in Dehra Dun on the advise of the

vet., who said that  the pet would not be able to

withstand Delhi heat. Tinky was always in our mind. The

thought of having another pet  never came to our mind.

After several years we got Elsa,

a  Labrador, as a gift from a family friend. She was so

sweet that we instantly fell in love with her. She was just

two weeks old. She became an integral part of the family.

Her innocent face with  a long tika on her forehead, made

her look like a beauty  queen.

We appointed a trainer for her. She hated him. When he

came, she knew from his footsteps that he had arrived

and instantly hid behind a door, a curtain or  in my lap.

The teacher, then called her name and slowly she would

come out from the  place where she was ''hiding''. It was

very interesting to see her crawling slowly towards her

coach.

When a  family member arrived home  from

outside, it was impossible to enter without a 'hello' from

her. She would become crazy when a family member

came in. Elsa was very obedient. If something was put in

her bowl, and I  forbade her, she would not touch the

eatable till she got a green signal. She was mortally

afraid of my DIL.  If she did some thing wrong, the kids

would say, ''Mom is coming''. It was a sight to see Elsa.

She used to hide or pretend that she had slept.  There

were so many interesting  anecdotes about Elsa. We

had engaged a trainer for Elsa. Like any other small child

Elsa did not like him. The moment she heard his foot

steps, she used to hide under a chair or behind a door.

One call from the teacher, and Elsa would come and

stand in front of the teacher, like an obedient student.

Elsa lived for thirteen years. She was a very healthy pet.

She was very jolly and spread cheer in the whole house.

The last year of her life she suffered a lot.  We consulted

many vets, she was given  several injections, got the

best medical aid, but her condition deteriorated. One vet.

suggested chemotherapy. That was the only hope left.

Before the   scheduled date , Elsa  breathed  her last.

Her helplessly looking eyes  are still in front of me. The

whole family was in despair. Elsa Baby  you will always

be with us.

Before the Challenge started,I  had  thought of a word for each alphabet. I also wrote twenty six posts, representing each  letter.

It was the forth day of the Challenge that I faced a real Cha;;enge. It was early morning of 4th April that a  a  scary demon, in the the form of ''Heart  Attack'' pounced upon me. As this sort of  excruciating pain, I had never experienced before, but  even for a breath of a second, the idea did ot strike that it a heart attack.I suffered the pain  without  making any sound. It was at 5a.m. that I stared swetting profusely ,then I called my husband. He called my DIL from her room  She came and seeing my condition phoned my daughter, who is a doctor. She reached our house in no time and called an ambulance. Both male members, my son and son in law were out of station. They were allerted. Both of them reached the same  day  by the first available flight. The  doctors did a marvellous job. Within 40 minutes they managed to put a stent into my heart, and sent me to the CCU.I  became conscious wihtin  1/2 an hour  The first thing thzt I  remembered was my blog. I  asked my DIL whether my blog was posted, but she was unaware. Then I called Shilpa, who had helped me earlier in difficult situations.I had already written all the twenty six post on 'Word Document ''. Shilpa posted the post on the scheduled date.. She  is a true and sincere friend..
I was discharged from the hospital, on 8th April. The Doctor  advised me not to  do any streuous work. The posts were all ready. they only  required to be copy/pasted. I completed the Challenge sucessfully. I am guilty of not reading many blogs. I commented on most of the blogs that I read. I  will now make efforts to read as many posts as possible.. I am grateful to mant friends/wett wishers, who read my posts and gave their comments. My special thanks  to Shilpa, Rachna Parmar, Elly, Suzy, Leo, Parul, Susan, Vishal, Vinodini Iyer., Rudrapragya,. I might have forgotten some names. My thanks to them .
It was a real Challenge, but I could overcome it smoothly.
