Music is always welcome. I have yet to come across a person, who does not relish music. Music does not mean only film music. Music can be classical music, instrumental music, kawallies, ghazals and much more. Today I want to limit myself to Hindi songs of olden days. It was the golden era of Hindi film songs. Those days the music was soft and soothing. More emphasis was given to lyrics. Now a days we rarely find music of the genre of the by gone times.
Today I have selected some old songs of Talat Mahmood. He was known as the ghazal king. His velvety voice attracted the hearts of millions of ghazal lovers. He was awarded the Padmashri award in 1992 by the Govt.of India.
The first song in this bouquet is a non film song, which is an all time favourite of several music lovers. I was a teenager when this song was released. It is nostalgia, which made me select this song. Tasveer teri dil mera behla na sakegi.
Film Sujata was a hit movie, which had Sunil Dutt and Nutan in the leading role. Here is a very popular song from the movie. Nutan played the role of an untouchable girl, which was perhaps one of her best.
The next song is from the movie Sangdil. The story of this film was based on the famous novel 'Rebecca'. Talat Mahmood sang many songs for Dilip Kumar. His voice suited him perfectly.
The following song has been taken from the film Madhosh. Even though the movie was a failure at the box office, the song,'meri yaad mein tum na ansoo bahana' became a hit.
The song, which I am now presenting is from V. Shantaram's movie Parchaien. Shanta Ram and his beautiful wife, Jaishree acted in the lead roles. Talat Mahmood sang for V. Shanta Ram.
The last song is from the film ' Daag'. Dilip Kumar was known as the tragedy king. Talat Mahmood's voice matched his songs very naturally.

Yes, Talat was the tragedy song king of those days. Then came Mukesh!
ReplyDeleteI love all the songs of the film, 'Sujatha'. SD Burman's song, 'sun mere bandhure' or 'Khaali ghata chaay'. The movie also was very good.
I didn't know that Shantaram acted too! Rajshri is their daughter, right? Jayashri looks beautiful. But Rajshri had long, chin, I remember!
Nice collection,Usha!
Thank you Sandhya. Yes Sujatha was a very decent movie. Shantaram acted in Jhanak Jhanak payal baje and Do ankhen barah haath. also.
DeleteSangdil was based on Rebecca? I did not know that. Will watch the movie for sure now.
ReplyDeleteTalat Mehmood is my favorite singer. What a voice!
Ava thank you. You too seem to be a fan of Hindi Movies like me. It is nice to share our views with like minded people.
DeleteSuch lovely gems each of them, hadn't heard the first one though. There was a quivering quality in his voice that added depth to Talat's singing. I love his "Shaam E Gham ki Kasam" and "Meri yaad mein tum na aasoon banana". THis post brought back many old memories, radio ki yaad dila di aapne Ushaji :)
