“The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.”Albert Einstein

The above quotation  supports  the following  short story

Mohini was a  very  hard working girl. Right from childhood, she was  a quiet girl. She did not mingle with other girls. She was the eldest of  one brother and two sisters. She was very reserved. She  was a graduate, having passed the examination in first division. While in college she developed friendship with  Suresh, a boy  who was also reserved like her.  Mohini's mother died when she was twelve years old. Her father worked as clerk in the Municipality office. He was always worried about his children. After graduation, Mohini took up a job  to supplement the family income.
One day,on his way back from  office,Ram Prasad, was lost in thoughts, when a  car hit him and fled away.Ram Prasad was bleeding profusely, but nobody came to help him. Some people collected around him, but did not care to help him. One person, on seeing a crowd, pushed his way in the front. He shouted at the crowd,"Don't you all see this man is dying? Let us take him to a hospital". Ram Prasad was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead. Mohini was shattered. Suresh consoled her and offered that she should shift to his house along with her siblings. He told her that his parents would be happy to welcome them.  Mohini did not agree.  She told him that she would enter his house as a bride.Suresh agreed with her when she told him that her brother, who had finished his MBA would soon get a good job and will take the responsibility of both younger sisters.
Mohini's brother got  a very good job as an executive in a very big firm.  All the sisters were very happy, but destiny had some other plan. He brought a girl and said, that he wanted  to marry her. Mohini was very happy. She thought that her sacrifice for the family was finally rewarded.  Now her brother threw a bombshell. He said that he would be shifting to his in-laws after marriage, as his wife was not accustomed to live in  such a small hose.  Mohini was aghast, but she did not  allow her tears to flow down. She met Suresh and apologised to him.She told him  to get married because she had the responsibility of her two sisters. She never met him after this incident.
In the next three years both sisters  were married. The day when the younger one got married,Mohini could not control her tears. She was left alone. That was her fate. There was knock on the door.Mohini opened the door. It was Suresh standing before her. Seeing a surprised look on Mohini's face he said that he did not marry but kept his promise to never meet her. Now when all her responsibilities were  over he came to her. He wiped Mohini's tears and took her in his arms.

Note: the story depicts people of different characteristics. Selfish, noble, hardworking, helpful, money minded, loving etc.

  5. Sigh... I love a good story and this truly made me smile at the end... we need more happy endings in our stories, what with all the suffering and sacrifices we see around us.

  7. That's a nice story. Glad that Suresh waited for her. Usually they say that one mustn't sacrifice too much, because if you sacrifice too much there’s nothing else you can give and nobody will care for you!

  8. A very nice story ma'am although sometimes I feel you cannot be very selfless in today's world for in the end you might be left wondering where you went wrong by always doing the right thing.
