Memories.

In the evening of my life ,so many thoughts are just  gushing forth, that I am at a loss to select  the incidents  which matter the most to me. We all remember our schooling, college life, our profession and our married life. All these mile stones are of great importance in  our life. Now that I am in a meditative state and glancing  over the pages of my life, I realise that the moment one becomes a grand mother/ grand father, one attains  a stage of ones life, where you feel  the wheel of life has come full circle.
I remember the birth of my grand daughter. The moment my DIL was taken to the hospital, I felt a strong thumping of my heart. It was midnight when she went to the hospital. I  can't relate my feelings. It was a mixture of joy and concern. Joy because , I was to become a grand mom  and concern that every thing should  be smooth for the mother and the baby. Morning at six 0  clock ,I and my husband reached the hospital. It seemed that time stood still. Every minute I was watching  the time but it seemed that it had forgotten to move. After, what seemed to be an endless wait, a Doctor  came and told us that  we have got a grand daughter. I and my husband were on seventh heaven. After some more waiting, the baby was brought to us. Oh soooo sweeeeet was she !!. Thick black hair was the main attraction of the baby. Till she grew up, each and every action of  Rajita ( that is what we named her ) was  unique. She is an all rounder. She is a great dancer, orater and a choreographer. There are so many of her achievements which are valueable to us. She is truly brilliant. This tiny doll is now doing her P.hd. in Physics in USA.  We are proud of her and her meritorious  record.

Rajita,,my grand daughter

Tejas, my grandson.

The other grand child is  a boy, son of my daughter.  I vividly remember the day when he was born. A school had invited me as a chief guest for the prize distribution function of their school.  I was getting ready to go to the school, when a phone call from my son in law informing me that my daughter was being taken to a nursing home. I was panic stricken. Poor girl, I could never see her in  pain.I immediately phoned the school and informed them about my inability to attend the function. They were very disappointed.  I and my husband reached the nursing  home in no time.  Jyoti  was in the labour room. After about fifteen minutes  a sister came and announced that she had given birth to a baby boy.  This  boy , right from his childhood, is a very brilliant child. In his school he was elected president of the quiz society.  He participated in many inter school and inter state quiz competitions  and always came out as a winner. He passed his M.B.B.S. exam last year and got a ist rank is the M.D. entrance exam. The whole family is proud of Tejas.

  5. I have often heard that as a grandparent one gets to enjoy the joys of parenting minus the disciplinary actions. Your anecdotes reveal the pride you take in your loved ones Ushaji :)

    1. Thanks Reshma. Taking disciplinary action is the job of the parents. We "spoil" them by yielding to all their requirements.
