Yesterday 12th class results of CBSE were declared. Children are excited, as they will now become collegiate. Delhi University, South and North Campus are gearing up and have come alive after a hiatus of two months,( first the preparatory holidays and then the Examination days.) Not only the University, but the surrounding areas also, were in great slumber. No colorfully dressed boys and girls invaded their favored haunts.
Landlords, who let out their premises to children, when they fail to get hostel accommodation, are busy in sprucing up the rooms. The popular shops which are invaded by a number of students are also being given a face lift. These include eateries which specialise in popular food items such as momos, noodles, burgers , chana bhaturas and the like. They are storing up raw materials. Another activity which is hectically being pursued is to welcome outstation children. They need sim cards and mobile phones. Many shops dealing with these items have mushroomed in the area. Not to be left behind are ready made garment shops and book stores. Kamla Nagar, Roop Nagar colonies, which are nearest to North campus have no time to stand and wait. Admission seekers have already started thronging these markets Similarly in South campus the adjoining markets are piling up goods favoured by the student fraternity.
Groups of children can be seen in consultation with their friends discussing different permutations and combinations of subjects that they wish to select. Some new comers are found airing their fears regarding ragging.
Inside the homes of children, parents show their concern that the children are on the thresh hold of a new life and should not land in the company of rowdies. They keep counselling their kids about the do's and dont's of college life. Not only the parents but elder brothers/sisters narrate their experiences of college days. Generally the picture painted by them is not a very pleasant one. They caution their siblings about bad company, missing classes, proxy attendance and rumours. The poor child is confused. BUT my advice is don't get tense by all such sermons. Next year even the 'new comers' will be 'experienced' enough to caution and advise the freshers about the do's and dont's of college life. This is life, it moves on . The following quote, written by Robert Frost (courtesy Google) conveys the message so aptly. The wheels of life keep moving, so move along with it.

Thanks Ananya. Yes those were the days.
DeleteIt is certainly that time of year! My kids only have 3 more days left and then it will finally be time for the summer holiday. The year has gone so fast! ♥
ReplyDeleteThank you Kathy. The time flies away fast.
DeleteNo Xerox shops? Here, there is a huge competition for opening xerox/photocopying shop next to colleges :) Some colleges, I hear, have allowed such shops inside their premises!

Yes Xerox shops too are in plenty. My omission.
DeleteBeing a sophomore, I can absolutely relate to your post Usha ji! I faced some similar experiences as a fresher, and I completely second your view that Life moves on. It certainly does. The fears I had as a fresher are not only erased, but I can advice on them to my juniors now.
