Out of
innumerable books that I've read, I was fascinated by Jane Austen. In a BBC
poll in 2002, Jane was placed at number seventy among the most popular
authors. Recently in my dream I met Jane and had a tete- te with
her. I asked her why did she emphasise on the subject of matchmaking of girls.
She replied that in the eighteenth century girls were making a mark in
the society, and wanted to settle down peacefully with a husband of their
choice. Her novels, Pride and Prejudice, Emma, and Sense and
Sensibility are based on this issue.
