Life is a rainbow. It has so many colours which give it variety and beauty on one side and pain and sorrow on the other. Different adventures and incidents add up to provide spice to an otherwise dull and drab life. The story of John and his teacher, Emily is a like a rainbow.Emily joined a school as a teacher. She was allotted class sixth. The very first day she noticed John. When she asked him his name, he did not respond. The other children screamed,'' Ma'am, he will not speak. His name is John." Emily's effort to make him speak did not succeed. The first impression is the last impression. Emily just ignored him. She noticed that he was unkempt, shabby, and unclean. The child failed. After the session was over, Emily had to complete the log books of the pupils. She kept John's at the bottom. After three weeks she took John's record . What she found written there shocked her. Up to class three he had obtained very good remarks from the teachers. From class four onward his position deteriorated. In class sixth the child failed. Emily was curious to know how suddenly this downfall started. From the next session she kept a special eye on him. Things began to change for the better. She gave encouraging remarks in his note books. She came to know that after his mother's death, his father remarried. His step mother ill -treated him, which resulted in his downfall. Emily's heart was full of compassion for him. She encouraged him at every step. He stood first in the class.Emily was so happy for him.
In the beginning of the next session, Emily was wondering how will the class be without John. As she entered the class, she found the following words written on the Blackboard,"Emily teacher is the best teacher."Tears flowed from her eyes. This pattern followed every year on the beginning of every session till John left school. He topped in the school. Now she got letters by post. She was overwhelmed. Suddenly the letters stopped!! She was now a retired teacher. One day the call bell rang and a handsome young man entered the house with a lady and two children. Emily's old eyes recognised John. He was now Governor of the State. He told his wife and children,"She was my best teacher." He requested her to come and stay with him,but she politely refused. She told him, "I am always with you. I see you everyday in the news. Your image is firmly fixed in my whole being." John bent to hug her. As he put his arms round her, she collapsed in his hands!
Outside the rain stopped. A bright rainbow appeared in the sky!!
