This post has been published by me as a part of Blog-a-Ton 56; the fifty-sixth edition of the online marathon of Bloggers; where we decide and we write.
A secret is a secret till no one knows that it is a secret. The moment someone pronounces it as secret, by using the words, ''Don't tell anyone. It is a secret.'' And lo! It is no more a secret. It spreads like wild fire.
The exact origin of this word is not known. The earliest reference to this word is found in Latin literature in the 14th century. One thing about its origin, which is certain, is that it came from the word 'secretary,' who is closest to the boss and maintains a records of urgent and confidential matters. Thus we come to know about secrecy in our day to day life and dealings.
Why do people like to spread secrets. The reason, which I feel is
1. The person, who knows a secret , feels important.
2 He feels that he is the privileged one to possess the news.
3. Due to his self proclaimed pride, his ego feels satisfied.
In a moment of exaggerated self importance he conveys the news to another person, requesting him not to divulge to any one. The secret is now not a secret. It is passed on and on and it becomes the talk of the town.
There is a famous story of a marriage party, which I would like to relate. The bride was a widow, with one child. It was kept a secret. The groom's one aunt, could not keep the secret and told a friend the truth. Within minutes all the guests knew about it.
A principal of a school wanted a news to be conveyed to the staff. He just mentioned to a teacher that it was to be kept as a secret. It became public in five minutes.

There is famous story of a very sincere and upright person. His colleague told him an important news, to be kept as a secret. The man became very restless. The news did not allow him to sleep the whole night. In the morning he could no longer wait. He came out of the house, saw a buffolo, and and repeated the news to it!! I end with a wonderful quotation by Benjamin Franklin,''A secret between three people can remain a secret, if two are dead.''
