After reading Madam Corinne's words of wisdom, I did a self introspection. At this stage of life, when I have no wish to add to my bag of achievements, even small things amuse me. Till some years ago, perhaps I was too much engrossed in the world of competition, fulfilling my ambitions, that minor day to day activities were ignored. Now when I look around with a free mind, I find life is interesting. ''I am keeping my brain young and healthy''. Watching things from a different perspective, makes you feel a new personality. I will give an example.
There is a resettlement colony behind our house. Previously I never noticed that there human habitation there. Once out of curiosity, i saw what was going on, A particular household's daily morning rush was handled by a woman in such a manner that it looked funny, but still made sense. She has five children and sixth is on its way to make entry. At night she ties a rope on their legs and other edge of the rope on her hand thus ensures the children are safe. In the morning, taking advantage of the number, the mother makes them occupy a place in different queues. Two are at the public water tap, with a bucket , another in the line for milk. Still another at the public lavatory, reserving a place for the father. If the father is late, some one else pushes the 'guard' and enters the sanctum in a jiffy. A huge fight ensues. This is a daily occurrence.
One day I called the lady and asked her why she was not sending the children to school. She gave a curt reply. She said that they are her children and her assets. It was her prerogative to make them live as she wanted. If they go to school, there will be no one to help her.
This not the only case in this colony, where the norm is 'more the merrier'.

Really unfortunate that some parents think this way about sending their children to school

Thanks Tina missed you very much. Congrats for a new entry in the house.
DeleteI feel that it's so sad to deprive children of education and very selfish. More so, tying ropes and it's something I should never do to children. My point is: Parents should bear children if they can afford to for one has no right to make children unhappy.
ReplyDeleteThank you VishaIt is unfortunate that children are being 'used' by their own parents.l
DeleteYour description made it sound so funny... but yes the irony is dark humour how in a process to help her out she is making sure they are never allowed to help themselves out of this misery..

This particular case I saw many years ago.
