Scream

This is a true incident, that I am going to relate. The year was 1945, when I was ten years old. I remember it vividly. My father was posted to a place called Pandaweshwer, a small town in Bengal. There was no  electricity in the town We got electricity through a small generator
. Our  house was very big.It had about ten rooms, Each room was as big as a hall. We were five members in the family, my parents and three children. We  occupied  only four rooms. In summer, a large cloth, fixed  in the centre of the room with a rope , served  the purpose of a fan a  man used to sit outside the room and pull the rope.

We had a fridge, which worked on kerosene oil. Thus all facilities were availble. Only thing which created nuiscance was an army of rodents. They ran about freely as if the place was their property.
One evening we were sitting in the living room, with music playing ,which we all enjoyed very much. All of a sudden my mother let out a loud 'SCREAM'. we were all flabbergasted. What happened. We were scared.Mom was standing on  top of the dining table, her sari was lying in a corner of the room and she was continuously 'screaming' .Papa tried to console her and asked her what happened. After persistent cajoling,, she said, ''A mouse has entered  into my sari.. There was loud laughter in the room.

  5. Hello, very hilarious post. I enjoyed it.

I remember the fan or the punka which you mentioned. There was such a fan in the barber shop when I was young boy. I pulled the rope when I was waiting in the barber shop for my turn to cut my hair.

The photo you posted is very nostalgic.

    Best wishes
