My 12 favourite movies

In my younger days I was a great movie buff.  Sometimes I even bunked classes to see a movie.I have seen numberless  movies. It is difficult to select  twelve which I liked the most and which had a permanent effect  on the  mind.

1. Mother India  This movie, starring Nargis and Sunil Dutt was the greatest movie of its times. The performance of Nargis was one of the best seen in Hindi movies.

2.Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje, movie made by V. ShantaRam was essentially a movie, which  was made to promote classical dance. I  don't know whether it succeeded in its aim, but i can say that it was a great extravagance. Every thing was perfect. The dances by Sandhya and Gopi Krishan were a treat to the eyes.A dance from the movie is presented

3.Amar Prem, a movie with a story line, very different from run in the mill  love stories was my great favourite. The songs of the movie were memorable. Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore have acted together in many movies, but their acting was superb  in this movie.

4.Guide was another movie which captured  my heart. When I saw it first, I was not very much fascinated. After wards I saw it two or three times. It is very touching and leaves a permanent stamp on the mind. Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman make a very good couple
                                             .

5.Sholay was, perhaps the greatest movie of the silver screen  in India. It took the whole country by storm. Its crisp dialogues  became extremely popular. Amjad Khan's character  as Gabbar Singh  became immortal.  The video  recording of  his famous  dialogue is presented  below

 6. Golmaal was a  hilarious movie. Right from the opening scene till the end it was pure laughter. The good thing was that the comic scenes were in  simple language, unlike comic scenes in some movies which have a double meaning.

7.Mera Naam Joker  was a movie much ahead of its time. It did not find favour with the audience Raj Kapoor  invested his  life's earnings  in producing this movie. When the movie  failed at the box office, Raj Kapoor could not bear the  shock and died.  A song from the movie is presented here

8'Lagaan, movie starring Amir Khan  always depicts  some off the track. This movie, with Indian and foreign  actors was something  never  shown before. A  glimpse of the movie is depicted here

9.Tare Zamin Par, again a movie by Aamir Khan. He has very beautifully depicted  an autoistic child and how  to deal with this problem. It is a very touching movie.

10.Koshish a very sentimental movie of a couple. One cannot speak and the other cannot hear. The main stars are Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bachhan. A scene is shown below

 11. Namak Halal is a comedy film starring Amitabh Bachhan. A hilarious scene is shown here

12  And last but not the least  a song from a very thoughtful movie  dealing with prisoners This was again V. Shanta Ram who produced an experimental movie Do Ankhen Barah Haath

I have not seen any latest movie, except a scene or two on my laptop. I would have  included a few more movies like Jab We Met, Bandini, Proffessor and Chupke Chupke  but the post would have become too long.
