Is it not strange that even in the modern age people do not like to have a girl. They prefer to have a boy. The society is still prejudiced against having a baby girl. In rural areas people are extremely against a baby girl. According to a survey 70 % girl children were aborted in the last twenty years. Especially in rural areas many baby girls are strangled immediately after birth. The reason behind this is stated to be financial. Due to poverty they do not have resources to pay for dowry. Amartya Sen,economist said that more than i00million are missing.
‘In India, China and some other countries in the world , girls are
killed, aborted and abandoned because they are girls'.The truth is that people do NOT want a girl.In many States the ratio between the boys and the girls is 1000 and 700.
Even though abortion is legal in our country, the law does not allow abortion due to choice of gender. Many Ultra Sonic Clinics are flourishing. The illiterate woman are in mortal fear of their in laws. Their fear is that if a girl is born, they will be thrown out of the house. The pity is that such women are not accepted by their own parents. It has also been observed that not only in villages this practice is followed, but in cities too it is very common. Of late cases of rape, abuse and violence against women are very much in the news. Hence even among the rich classes a fear complex is on the rise. They feel that they may not be able to preserve the modesty of the girls. It is a pity that instead of making strict laws to punish the men, who shamelessly consider woman as second rate citizens, very little is being done to take action against those who commit offence, and do not think twice before they rape and insult her modesty. The pity is that the protectors of law blame the women.Their contention is why do the girls wear obscene dresses and many other such ridiculous reasons. The greatest matter of shame is that when some shocking incident takes place, the media, the law, the general public and the politician, all join hands to recommend strict action against the person, who is responsible for the devilish act. But very soon it is all forgotten and life goes on merrily, waiting for the next crime.
When will women get justice?

Going by the looks of it, I think it is a long long time for the women to get justice in our country! :(
ReplyDeleteYes Shilpa You are correct. The pity is that even Social welfare Dept is sleeping.
DeleteInstead of looking at others if we change ourselves we can bring the change..how many women respect women..in family they always give more weightage to what men say...
ReplyDeleteYou are very correct. It is very unfortunate.
DeleteIt's one topic which irks me. Abortion just because it's a girl. Such people should be hanged. When will people actually smile and say 'It's a girl' ?
ReplyDeleteThought provoking post, Ma'am. Something we should all act upon.
Aathira God knows when this misery for the girls will come to an end.
DeleteA well-known saying goes : yes girls should be born , but born in the neighbour's house.
ReplyDeleteThe lineage propagation rests on the woman's womb. Families prefer to welcome a 'bahu' not a 'beti'. This is sad and wrong. Welcome both with open arms.
Well that is a very correct quotation. Kalpana,
DeleteI have nominated your name for the Quintet Radiance Award. Congrats Kindly refer to my post on this subject.
You ask something that irks most of us.... :(
ReplyDeleteBhavya, this subject is irksome/
DeleteReally sad sad state of affairs.. I think we are citizens have to get up and work against this malpractise together all of us..
ReplyDeletesadly we forget that sons also come from a Woman.. sons also marry a WOman..
Bikram
Thank you Bikram. The irony is that this problem has become extremely deep rooted in our system, and no one comes forward to solve it.
DeleteI wonder how they plan to keep the production of boys on if there are no more women to produce them! No words to define how stupid these people are.
ReplyDeleteSad state of affairs, unfortunately education or standard of living has nothing to do with the cheap mindset of people. Every wants a mother and a wife or even a sister but not many want a daughter.
ReplyDeleteReshma, it is really unfortunate!!
DeleteThought provoking and informative Usha ji..... It is true that earlier girls were not welcome as they were a financial "liability" to many, but things haven't changed even now, when women are financially capable - more often than not. As for the other growing menace of the society, respect for women and girls is something that the mothers have the best opportunity to teach young boys. Little things make impressions on young minds....
ReplyDeleteUshaji, would love to hear your thoughts on this young man's action... http://thescribblings.weebly.com/silken-scribblings/is-dowry-demand-justifiable
