Pushkar Fair of Rajasthan

Today is the 18th day of the 'A 2 Z challenge'. The festival for today is Puskar Festival of  Rajasthan

The Pushkar Fair of Rajasthan is an annual feature of Rajasthan. It is a five days fair, in which camels and other livestock take the lead. This fair is held annually in Pushkar, a small town near Ajmer in Rajasthan. It is one of the largest camel fairs, held anywhere in the world. The fair is  an important tourist attraction in the State. More than 11,000 camels, horses and cattle are brought from all over Rajasthan. It is a great spectacle. About 400,000 visitors assemble here for the fair which is held every year in the month of November around full moon.

The camels are given a beauty treatment before the festival. They are shaved, dressed up, paraded and made to dance for the beauty contest. They are then traded. This is very amusing. The tourists are entertained by a large number of musicians, snake charmers, magicians and acrobats. For tourist  entertainment there are contest like ‘longest moustache’, ‘breaking clay vessels’ and ‘bridal competitions’.
Many activities like ‘rope pulling’, 'camel ride’ and many games are organised.
The tourists can have a bath in the holy Pushkar lake, which is considered as a spiritual occasion.
