Hardly ten minutes had passed when another
crowd entered the emergency. A child, about ten years was crying at the pitch of his voice .A man
was carrying him and a group of four or five were following him.He had
perhaps got food poisoning as he was
puking every five or ten minutes. This child was also given an injection. After
which he fell asleep. Only one was
allowed to sit by his side. All the others were asked to depart.
It was 3 a.m. when Doctor Sheila entered her
cabin and ordered two cups coffee. She had not finished her coffee when another
patient was brought inside by two constables. It was a case of drunken driving.
The man was not in his senses and was continuously abusing the constable . Dr. Sheela asked a junior doctor to give him
an injection. All this while the man was going on shouting that he was not to
be blamed and he had not consumed any alchohol. Soon after he was given a shot
he drifted into sleep. Dr. Sheila then told the staff on duty to check the
man’s pocket and inform his family.
I left the Hospital in the morning
at 6 am after my husband was
declared fit. The drunken man was still
in slumber due to the injection given to
him. Out side I saw a lady and a man
sitting on the bench . I presumed that they were the parents of the drunkard.

ReplyDeleteYes Shilpa it is a very tough life for the Doctors.Right from their days when they study,it is hard work all the way.
DeleteI get really scared of hospitals in general. And Emergency ward is even scarier.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rachna .Yes you are correct, inside thr emergency ward is ery scary. Imagine the plight of those who have to work there for their living.
DeleteEmergency room is a busy place, full of critically injured or ill patients from all walks of life, with all manner of illness...I've been there once when I had a heart attack...and was amazed at the doctors abilities to manage patient-load...very nicely described, Usha.

DeleteThank you for sharing, Mrs Menon. I've been a few times in the Emergency ward with a patient and know how traumatic it can be. The patient is given a pain-killer but the attendant certainly needs his/her nerves to be soothed too! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Corinne for your comments which are precious for me.
DeleteThat was a lot to witness for a common man. As you said, God forbids someone has to be in or near hospital.
ReplyDeleteThanks Saru for stopping by to read my post. The name 'emergency' itself is frightening.
DeleteThank you for sharing this. It really is too much for an average (wo)man to handle all by himself.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bhav.Zz for your valuable comments
DeleteEmergency wards are not the best places to be, Mrs.Menon. Even when the activity involves strangers, it feels traumatic. The tension in the air is scary!
ReplyDeleteThanks and welcome to my site,Vidya.Yes you are correct.Inside the Emergency ward it is really scary. and specilly Govt Hospitals where multitudes visit round the clock.
DeleteYou've given a typical picture of an emergency ward situation. It is indeed a stressful place - and every new case which comes, has its own complications. Not to mention that there is always a shortage of staff, so the pressure is even more. Like you've correctly said, the duty Doctor, being in the midst of it all, has tremendous pressure.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post.
Welcome to my site,Raja, and thanks for the valuable comments.Keep in touch.
Deleteno doubt it is a stressful place to be!! my youngest one was in NICU for quite many days, and during that time, we weren't allowed to wait for long outside the NICU and I remember waiting in the lounge which also housed the emergency... the sounds, the scenes...it used to creep me out like hell...
ReplyDeleteThank you Princess. I am happy that you liked my post. I can imagine your agony and stress when your loved one was in NICU.
DeleteHi Usha,
ReplyDeleteNice to be here as my return visit to your blog :)
Yes indeed, the scene within the emergency ward is pretty bad and something no one would like to go through, yet when the need arises, all of us have to go there. I remember the time when I had to go to one when my Mom was suffering from cancer too - brings back sad memories. Nevertheless, such is life and we all have to live it through :)
Thanks for sharing. Have a nice day :)
Hi Harleena,

Hope that everyone is in the best of health but if an emergency comes , they be treated by patient Doctors. Thank your Doctors as they are angels whose work is invisible till we need them to realise that they truly are next to God.
DeleteThanks dear Kavita. Doctors are doing yeoman's service to society. We salute them.
DeleteTrue. To be in a hospital will bury your ego in a deep pit.Well-written.
